In today’s world, many of us spend more time sitting than ever before. Between desk jobs, driving, screen time, and busy schedules, physical inactivity has become one of the biggest health challenges facing Australians.
At our Wellness Centre in Redland Bay, we regularly meet people who want more energy, better mobility, improved strength, and greater confidence in their bodies as they age. The good news? One of the most powerful tools for supporting long-term health is movement.
Recently, we also saw this come to life in a truly fun and inspiring way.
We hosted a special MJ Inspired Movement Event, bringing together people of all ages for an evening of music, laughter, and movement. From beginners to experienced movers, everyone joined in as we danced, moved, and even learned a few iconic Michael Jackson-inspired steps, including the famous moonwalk.
What made the night so powerful wasn’t just the music, it was seeing generations moving together, smiling, and reconnecting with the joy of movement. It was a reminder that exercise doesn’t have to feel like a chore; it can be fun, social, and deeply uplifting.
The Hidden Cost of a Sedentary Lifestyle
Research shows that prolonged sitting and lack of regular physical activity are associated with an increased risk of:
✔ Reduced muscle strength
✔ Poor posture
✔ Decreased flexibility and mobility
✔ Loss of bone density
✔ Increased risk of falls
✔ Chronic pain and stiffness
✔ Reduced balance and coordination
✔ Lower energy levels and overall wellbeing
After the age of 30, adults naturally begin to lose muscle mass and bone density. Without regular movement and strength-building activities, these changes can accelerate, affecting independence, mobility, and quality of life.
Why Dr Marina Opened the Movement Lounge
As a healthcare practitioner, Dr Marina repeatedly saw patients seeking help for issues that often had a common underlying factor: lack of movement.
From poor posture and recurring back pain to reduced mobility, falls, and declining bone health, many of these challenges could be improved—or even prevented—with the right exercise and support.
That's why she created the Movement Lounge in Redland Bay.
Her vision was simple: create a welcoming, supportive space where people of all ages and fitness levels could improve their strength, flexibility, balance, and overall wellbeing through guided movement.
Today, just six months after opening, the Movement Lounge has grown into a thriving wellness community with:
✨ 7 experienced instructors
✨ 25 classes every week
✨ Yoga, Pilates, mobility, and wellness-focused movement sessions
✨ A supportive environment for beginners through to experienced participants
